Counterparts is an exhibition and three-part conversation series dissecting the creative processes of designers who move through formats, mediums, and disciplines. It unearths how one practice informs and enables another, creating an expansive, non-singular body of work. The design goal was to express this fluidity and interplay visually.
The logomark for Counterparts highlights the interaction of overlapping letterforms. By overlapping the word itself, we created new letterforms that represent the space where different visions meet and combine. The identity evolves with interaction—shapes shift, becoming more or less abstract as the viewer navigates the digital space. This interaction echoes the exhibition's theme: the ever-changing nature of creative practices as they overlap and inform each other.
The website pushes this concept further, playing with symmetry and mirrored scrolling. On desktop browsers, the layout is divided into a 50/50 composition—content on the left scrolls naturally while the right scrolls in reverse. This flip in perspective is a visual metaphor for the designers' process of repurposing their craft to create something new. It's an intentional challenge to how we consume digital content, much like how the exhibition challenges the boundaries between personal and professional creativity.
Each artist's page is a narrative in itself, featuring audio interviews that guide visitors through their creative landscapes. These audio elements provide a multi-sensory experience, allowing users to engage with the artwork on a deeper level. This integration of audio and visual storytelling invites the audience to pause, listen, and view the pieces from fresh perspectives.
